Las Vegas Design Center Offers Year-Round Design-Driven Resources

This press release is submitted and shown here in its original form, unedited by Furniture Today.

LAS VEGAS, N.V. – (October 16, 2018) – Las Vegas Design Center (LVDC) offers interior designers and other members of the trade year-round access to a comprehensive selection of the industry’s finest product lines, and now, an opportunity to lease office space among those resources.

The design offices, located on the second floor of Building A, provide nearly 20 work spaces amid designer-centric furniture, fabrics, lighting, floor covering, wall décor, decorative accessories, and kitchen and bath resources. Benefits of leasing a space include: flexible space sizes, competitive rates, negotiable term length, conference room, break room, valet parking, 24-hour receiving, on-site restaurant/bar, 24-hour security and centralized location.

“Las Vegas Design Center is one of the only design centers in the country to offer the extent of the office space that we are offering,” said Lee Hershberg, vice president of home décor leasing and the Las Vegas Design Center. “This is an opportunity for designers to be in a community setting, to have the support of a marketplace, the prestige of a design center address, the professionalism of the environment and to be among the very resources they use for their installations.”

Located on the first two floors of Building A on the World Market Center Las Vegas campus, LVDC is home to nearly 30 to-the-trade showrooms showcasing 120+ product lines. Las Vegas Design Center resources include Vanguard Furniture, Global Views, Visual Comfort, Wendover Art, Christopher Guy, Norwalk Furniture, Phillips Collection, Eastern Accents, and the Kitchen Bath Resource Center, among others.

After a soft launch at 2018 Las Vegas Summer Market, the Kitchen Bath Resource Center (A110) is open and features four inspirational displays showcasing top brands in flooring, stone/tile/countertops, fixtures, plumbing, cabinetry and lighting. The 6,000-square-foot resource center is also home to the new European Kitchen, Bath Tile, and Stone showroom. The showroom will debut at 2019 Las Vegas Winter Market.

The Urban Chic Showcase, LVDC’s newest multi-line showrooms located in A226, includes brands such as Loloi Rugs, Howard Elliott, Art Frame Source and Interlude Home. Loloi and Howard Elliott have showrooms on other floors throughout campus that are only open during the bi-annual Las Vegas Market.

“I have a great designer base that knows and trusts me, and this showroom allows the companies to have greater visibility to West Coast designers while also giving the designers more choices,” said Joanne Tatem, president of Urban Chic. “We sell product off the floor for their convenience, as we all understand deadlines! Designers can bring their clients in as well so that they can touch and feel the product first hand.”

Beyond products, the Las Vegas Design Center builds community: Industry professionals and associations gather throughout the year for engaging seminars and programs, networking events, and special occasions. Additionally, LVDC showrooms are among the most popular destinations on campus for buyers and designers alike during Las Vegas Market.

Upcoming LVDC events include:
• Oct. 29: Garden Party with Christopher Guy, October 29
• Nov. 1: Sub Zero/ASID CEU
• Nov. 7 – Nov. 9: Sample Sale
• Dec. 6: Holiday Celebration

Cast-iron cooking: Pull out your skillet for pizza, lasagna and a giant cookie

Cast-Iron Lasagna

This lasagna elevates seasonal flavors with the addition of sautéed sweet potatoes and nutty roasted chickpeas. The best part about this meal is everything is made in the skillet, aside from roasting the chickpeas.

Makes 4 to 6 servings.

Roasted chickpeas:

1   15.5-ounce can chickpeas, drained and rinsed

1½ tablespoons olive oil or a neutral oil

½ teaspoon smoked paprika

¼ teaspoon EACH: cumin, garlic powder

Salt, to taste

Lasagna:

3 tablespoons olive oil or neutral oil, divided

1 medium sweet potato, peeled and sliced thin

6 ounces white button mushrooms, sliced

1 tablespoon minced garlic

5 ounces cream cheese, cut into blocks

6 oven-ready lasagna noodles, each broken into about 10 pieces

24 ounces spaghetti sauce

½ cup water

½ teaspoon cumin

Salt and pepper, to taste

Large handful of baby spinach

1 cup EACH: shredded mozzarella, shredded Parmesan

Fresh basil

Chickpeas: Heat oven to 375 degrees, and line a baking sheet with a silicone mat.

In a large zip-top bag, combine chickpeas with oil, paprika, cumin and garlic powder. Shake and toss the bag so the chickpeas are evenly covered. Spread on the baking sheet and bake, stirring once, for about 15 minutes, or until chickpeas are nearly crunchy.

Remove from oven and reduce heat to 350 degrees. Sprinkle chickpeas with salt while still hot. Set aside.

Lasagna: In a 10- or 12-inch cast-iron skillet, add 2 tablespoons oil over medium-high heat. Once it’s hot, add sweet potatoes and sauté until nearly fork-tender, about 5 minutes. (If the sweet potatoes are burning, reduce heat.) Remove the sweet potatoes to a bowl. Add mushrooms and garlic to the skillet along with remaining tablespoon oil.

Sauté the mushrooms until browned. Reduce heat to medium-low, and add the sweet potatoes back into the skillet. Add the cream cheese, broken lasagna noodles, spaghetti sauce, water, cumin, salt and pepper. Simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until noodles are just al dente. Top the skillet with baby spinach and allow it to wilt.

Sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, then put into the oven to bake for another 15 minutes, until cheese is bubbly. (You can broil the skillet for the last few minutes if you prefer.)

Remove from oven and top with basil and 1 cup roasted chickpeas. Serve immediately.

I bought an 18-piece dinnerware set from AmazonBasics — it’s surprisingly high quality for only $40

One of the few kitchen essentials everyone needs — whether or not they cook — is a dinnerware set.

About a year ago I bought a cheap 18-piece dinnerware set from Amazon’s store band, AmazonBasics. I didn’t go into the $40 purchase expecting ultra-high quality, and it’s definitely not fine china, but the quality is a lot higher than I expected. Amazon also packaged the set with care so that nothing arrived already broken, which is always a concern of mine when ordering anything fragile online.

The porcelain dinnerware set comes with six 5.5″ bowls, six 7.5″ dessert plates, and six 10.5″ dinner plates — the bowls are the perfect size for soup and cereal and the dinner plates are generously sized as well.

Everything in the set is dishwasher, freezer, and microwave safe. I don’t have a dishwasher in my apartment, but I’m going to take Amazon at its word since the plates have held up to frequent microwave and freezer use. And even though I use the pieces from this set daily, none of the plates or bowls have chipped, scratched, or cracked.

When I was researching which dinnerware set to buy, two things ultimately sold me on the AmazonBasics set: affordability and versatility. I didn’t want to feel guilty if I broke one of the pieces, and although I live alone, I wanted a set that was good for my everyday use but big enough for entertaining since I like to cook for my friends. AmazonBasics’ set checked both boxes. I could see it also being a great choice for families with kids, recent college graduates, and really anyone who doesn’t want to spend a lot on fine china.

If you’re ready to upgrade from mismatched plates and bowls and don’t want to spend more than $50 on a durable set, you’ll find a lot to like here.
