You Can Quickly Shred Full Chicken Breasts in a KitchenAid, So Consider Our Lives Changed

I love to cook, so naturally, I have quite the collection of spiffy little kitchen gadgets. The immersion blender was my favorite for a long time. Then, three years ago, my husband surprised me with a KitchenAid mixer for Christmas, and now I have no idea how I ever survived without it. It does everything. Even without the extra (and sometimes pricey) attachments, it mixes, blends, stirs, and — wait for it — shreds.

I know what you might be thinking: it shreds?! And I’m here to happily tell you that, yes, it does. As in, it will give you the most perfectly shredded chicken. And if chicken isn’t your thing, then it will also make pulled pork a breeze. This simple hack makes dinnertime so much easier, and it allows you to ditch the fork and annoying task of pulling apart the chicken yourself. So, if you don’t have a KitchenAid, I highly recommend getting one ASAP. Keep reading to see more of this hack that will blow your mind.

Reese’s Cookie Skillets Exist & You Can Buy Them For $12 Online

Welcome to the Church of Chocolate and Peanut Butter. Let us rejoice and give thanks for this giant Reese’s cookie skillet, which will truly save us all. Whether you’re mourning a loss (i.e. Beto not winning Texas), celebrating a victory (i.e. Beto saying he’s f*cking proud of us), or toasting to the future (i.e. Beto maybe running in 2020?), chocolate and peanut butter is the temporary food band-aid we all need and deserve after this most recent election cycle.

Foodie Instagram @ThreeSnackateers spotted the aforementioned big ol’ Reese’s cookie skillet at Walmart. The holiday-themed cookie kit comes with a Reese’s peanut butter and chocolate chip cookie mix, a giant cookie-sized skillet, and a spatula adorned with an adorable cartoon reindeer. Its retail value, according to the box, is a little less than $15, but the joy of eating a huge cookie out of a skillet is priceless, obviously.

There is also a space on the box designed like a gift tag, if you’re looking to gift your friends, family, secret Santa, etc. with a big cookie skillet. There is also nothing stopping you from writing “To: Me, From: Me”, going “aw, I shouldn’t have!”, and blessing yourself with a delicious cookie present. ‘Tis the season for cookie self-care!

While there are other variations of the Reese’s cookie skillet available on Walmart.com, the exact version doesn’t appear to be available. Also, the alternate variations are currently out of stock. So, you’ll just have to Walmart Yodeling Kid your way to the cookie aisle in-store and belt out, “Lord, I don’t know what I’ll doOOOOooo” until they give you your cookie skillet.

There is a similar version of the Reese’s holiday cookie skillet available online on Amazon for $19.95 and Big Lots’ website for $12. However, neither appear to include the reindeer spatula. Not sure if that’s a deal breaker as both still do include the cookie skillet, the clear selling point here. The Amazon skillet is a little smaller (2.1 oz) but the Big Lots version appears to be about the same size at the Walmart version, 5.25 oz.

The product description on Big Lots also says the cookie skillet is “perfect for gifting to the sweet tooth lover in your life,” which I’m going to need to dissect real quick. Is that someone who loves sweet teeth? Is that your lover who has a sweet tooth? Is it just a misuse of the phrase and I’m overreacting in a cookie-induced crazed? Regardless, whether you’re a lover of sweet teeth or just have a sweet tooth yourself, this cookie skillet will satisfy every and all teeth.

If you can’t get your hands on a giant cookie skillet, perhaps you’ll be able to snag one of these Reese’s advent calendars. Have you ever looked at an advent calendar and thought, “this is cool but what if…chocolate plus peanut butter?” Well, all rejoice, hallelujah: you can buy a Reese’s advent calendar on Amazon and experience 24 days of chocolate and peanut buttery joy. Lest you think you’re getting 24 mini-Reese’s cups, the calendar includes a variety of both Reese’s mini-cups and Reese’s pieces. Variety is the spice of life and candy advent calendars!

Chocolate rumors also suggest that Reese’s Thins could be coming out in 2019. They’re basically Reese’s cups…but thinner. Is this the chocolate and peanut butter combo we asked for? I mean, no. Am I going to use the thinner shape as an excuse to eat twice as many? Of course. Cookie self-care isn’t just for the holiday season.

In the meantime, you can indulge on your holiday cookie skillet for one (or more, if you feel like being generous) and fill your heart, soul, and stomach with chocolate-y, peanut butter goodness.

Field Company cast iron skillet review: a lightweight take on a …

Like a beautiful ring or a photo album, the cast iron pan is often a coveted heirloom that passes through the hands of many owners. Kitchen designs, recipes, and tastes may change, but one thing remains the same: our faith in this reliable and versatile piece of cookware.

The proud owners of several vintage cast iron pans passed down from their grandmother, Stephen and Chris Muscarella couldn’t help but compare their look and performance to that of modern models. Their company, Field Company, reads simultaneously like a nostalgic love letter to the time-honored virtues of cast iron and an ambitious challenge against its inconveniences.

They raised $1.6 million on Kickstarter for their Field Skillet, a “Lighter, Smoother Cast Iron,” which, with “light” and “cast iron” in the same name, sounds like a bundle of contradictions right off the bat. But from instant cameras to record players, vintage with a modern twist is on the rise, and the Field Skillet is just the piece of cookware to fulfill that connection to the past.

Field Company/Instagram

My first impression as I took the pan out of the box was that it was indeed light. While it’s not usually easy to casually lift a cast iron pan with one hand, doing so with the Field Skillet (the No. 8 weighs 4.5 pounds, and the No. 10 weighs six pounds) is a more comfortable endeavor and doesn’t run the risk of half your dinner landing on the floor.

The other immediate difference, which is part of the reason why it’s light, is that the cooking surface is machined and polished, not rough and pebbled from the residual sand of the molding process. The smooth surface is much nicer to cook on, plus it comes pre-seasoned with two coats of grapeseed oil, so it’s ready to cook with right away and you have a head start in building up layers of seasoning.

The pan wasn’t as non-stick as I would’ve hoped from its first use, but with subsequent use and seasoning, it did quickly reach that satisfying point where you could fly through the process of cooking anything from cornbread to a whole bird with no worries.

True to cast iron form, it had great heat retention and distribution, giving a crispy sear to meats and fish skins. Even the most simple assortment of vegetables tasted much better thanks to the combination of strong, consistent heat and the history of past dishes cooked in the pan.

Field Company

The homage to vintage — including the flat bottom and heat ring — is clear in the design of the pan, but you’re reminded it’s a cast iron of this century. Field Company is eco-friendly by using 75% to 90% recycled iron, and it emphasizes that the pans are made in the US.

Like many online start-ups, it tries to give you an experience, not just a product. It offers seasoning and care instructions in the box and online, as well as online support in case you have trouble with your pan. On- and offline, you’ll hear numerous “correct” ways to season and take care of cast iron pans, so if you’re new to the material and a little intimidated, Field Company can make you feel more confident about joining the cult of cast iron.

The pans currently come in two sizes. The No. 8 ($125), which should suit your everyday cooking tasks, has an 8.75-inch cooking surface and 10.25-inch top diameter, while the No. 10 ($160), great for large meals, has a 9.75-inch cooking surface and 11.625-inch top diameter. Without a doubt, they’re more expensive than popular cast iron models, but this could be an apples-to-oranges comparison since popular models are thick, heavy and have a rough surface, while the Field Skillet is thin, lightweight and polished. It’s not easy to find vintage cast iron online anymore, and Field Company’s approachable and well-made pan is surely the one to fill the gap.
