A First Look at Target’s Holiday Catalog

The holidays come out of nowhere. Every single year, they emerge in convenience stores across the country in the form of tinsel and ornaments mere hours after Halloween eve. The shock may have worn off by now, though, and it’s time to get in the spirit. While those first signs of cheap plastic decor may not have been super inspiring, we find Target’s holiday catalog to do the trick. Along with some new product—our favorites below!—there are some useful tips on how to deck your halls without losing control and falling into a glittery gimmicky winter wonderland.

  1. Take a tip from Joanna Gaines‘s book: Her new Hearth and Hand with Magnolia collab features firewood storage bins, display cases, and candleholders in the actual shape of a home to remind you of spending cozy holidays indoors.
  1. Holly and pine are classic—and you can’t beat the fresh wintery smell—but try a neutral and Scandi-inspired bunch of aspen tree branches as a modern way to bring the outdoors in.
  1. Choose dinnerware and table decor that doesn’t scream holiday, so you can bring it out year-round.
  1. Adorn open shelves with herb- or branch-filled pitchers, and wood cutting boards.
  1. If hours of baking are in your future, at least surround yourself with a set of high-style bakeware.
  1. Carve a home bar out of any nook in the house.
  1. Make a centerpiece guests can decorate with ornaments—woodland creatures preferred!
  1. Task the kids (or kidlike adults) with painting some logs for a colorful hearth.
