A new taco restaurant serves more than the basics

Tennessee Taco Company opens Monday in the space at 3295 Poplar recently vacated by Los Compadres. It’s owned by Belly Acres co-owner Ben McLean and chef Rob Ray and features what Ray calls “progressive tacos.”

The 24 varieties include Love Me Tuna, featuring seared tuna, mango salsa and chili sauce; Shrimp and Grind, with grilled shrimp, chorizo and roasted corn; Don’t Go Bacon My Heart; Tom Lee Pork and Gus’s Favorite.

In addition, look for salads, starters such as Guacing in Memphis and Pots o’ Tots, quesadillas and skillets, along with sweets such as doughnuts with a daily homemade dipping sauce.

There will also be a full bar.

Tennessee Taco Company will be open daily, 11 a.m.-10 p.m.
