Best Skillets

Q. What types of skillets work best on glass or induction stovetops?
A.
Stainless steel and heavyweight aluminum cookware is recommended. Others work okay in some conditions, but glass, ceramic, stoneware, and cast-iron cookware should not be used at all. Also, be careful to not slide your skillet across the cooktop surface.

Q. What types of utensils should I use to protect the non-stick cooking surface of my skillet?
A.
To avoid scratching a non-stick surface on a skillet, only use plastic, nylon, or wooden cooking utensils.

Q. Is it true that you should never wash cast iron skillets with dish soap?
A.
Despite the old wives’ tale, it’s okay to use soap on your cast iron. You won’t ruin it. However, don’t let it soak in the sink for an extended length of time.

Q. Is all cookware now dishwasher- and oven-safe?
A.
While it would make life easier if that were the case, it’s not, especially with non-stick surfaces and plastic handles. Make sure you read the care instructions that come with your skillet.
