Big Sandy Superstore to open on Maple Ave.

ZANESVILLEHome furnishings retailer Big Sandy will open new superstores this fall in the soon to be empty HHGregg location on Maple Avenue and as an anchor storie in the Indian Mound Mall in Health.

HHGregg filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March, according to USA Today. The company began liquidating assets last month after failing to find a buyer. The company expects to close all of its 220 stores by the end of May, resulting in about 5,000 layoffs across the U.S.

Big Sandy, with stores in Ohio, Kentucky and West Virginia, has seen tremendous growth the past few years. In 2016, they opened a Superstore in Dublin, Ohio, as well as one on Polaris Parkway, in Columbus, Ohio.

“The Columbus, Ohio area and central Ohio, in general, has been under-served for many years”, said Robert Vanhoose, CEO of the regional retailer. “Our Superstore Experience sets us apart from other retailers.” continued Vanhoose. “Nowhere else can you find everything you need to furnish your home under one roof.”

The retailer offers furniture, mattresses, appliances and HDTVs.  The company will also open an appliance department called  Kitchens Inspired inside its Dublin and Polaris locations, with of brands such as Thermador, Bosch, Jenn Air, Monogram, Marvel, Kitchenaid and more.

The company was established in 1953, in Ashland, Kentucky, not far from the banks of the Big Sandy River (hence, the name) by Robert’s father, Bob. Since then Big Sandy has grown into three states and established an online presence as well. Big Sandy Superstore is a nationally ranked, top 100 home furnishings chain and was recently featured as Dealerscope magazine’s Retail Excellence Award Winner.
