Mill Pond Park Receives Donation

NEWINGTON — The Newington Parks and Recreation Department and Newington Parks and Recreation Board are pleased to announce that Dr. Ellen Leonard donated $5,000 to the Newington Parks and Recreation Department in order to install a handicapped accessible drinking fountain, a dog drinking fountain and a water jug filling attachment at Mill Pond Park.

It will be surface mounted to the exterior bathhouse wall of the pool near the new Saputo Fitness Center. Park division staff will install a handicapped accessible paver brick walkway from the existing path to the fountain.

The fountain comes equipped with a 5 x 7 inch aluminum plaque that will honor Rhody, Dr. Leonard’s dog that recently passed away. She walked Rhody almost every day on the pond path and wanted to do something in her honor, to help her fellow mankind and dog friends.
