Cookware Trends To Expect In 2019

Consumers get a hint at trends to come during the International Home and Housewares Show.IHA

Cookware isn’t used to a lot of attention. But, that could change in 2019.

Manufactures like All-Clad, Calphalon, Cuisinart, Farberware — and plenty of others — are cooking up exciting upgrades for our favorite pots and pans. And, we agree, a cookware fashion revolution is long overdue. Here’s four themes to expect:

More Beautiful Colors

Expect T-fal to introduce new colors to its Excite cookware series in 2019.T-fal

Pots and skillets continue shedding those darker hues in favor of more colorful skins. Although this isn’t exactly a new trend, (companies like T-fal started rolling out color in the 1990s) we are seeing more of it. We predict in 2019, the anything-but-dark style will be sizzling hot. In fact, it’s already happening. Wayfair has over 1,300 listings on its online shopping site filed under “colorful cookware.” And, T-fal is planning to expand its line of colorful non-stick cookware later this year to make room for even more bold colors. It already has ruby and turquoise. And, expect Kitchen Aid to release new colorful kitchen tools and appliances following the big success of its Pantone-friendly Birds of Paradise series.

More Copper

Copper cookware, like this Lagostina set from Williams Sonoma, continues to be in high demand.Williams Sonoma

Yes, copper has been used in cookware for hundreds of years. But it continues to make a fashionable comeback as major retailers like Williams Sonoma amp up their copper-friendly marketing, in hopes of branding the chestnut cookware as an ideal pick for time-limited professionals. While copper is quite handsome, the material is the real reason you should consider it. Copper’s uniform heat conductivity enables heat to distribute evenly during top-of-range cooking. Another bonus? Copper retains heat much longer than other metals (enabling food to stay warm) and works great for sauteing. You can also clean it fairly easily, it just requires some extra care.Adaptable

Space-saving cookware gains momentum with lines by Calphalon and All-Clad.Calphalon

While a 10-piece cookware set sounds like a great idea, the truth is — many apartment and city dwellers simply don’t have space for it. That’s why big brands are offering more flexible options to help keep those cabinets neat and organized. Calphalon changed the game with their new stackable cookware line. Their fry, sauce and saute pans can easily squish together when not in use. Making tight stacks saves more space in the kitchen.

And other stackables are coming. Next month, AllClad d3 will also enter the stack game with the release of its Compact Collection, ideal for minimalist homes.

Cookware is also getting way more personal in 2019. Villeroy Boch Brand Ambassador Isabelle Von Boch says personalizing cookware is a trend that is here for the long-term, “from what we’ve seen, customers purchase our cookware and tableware collections that best meet their personal needs. The new consumer wants options and enjoys a variety of cuisines, which is why we have designed everything from pasta and pizza plates, to barbecue platters, soup and noodle bowls.”
