Designer Jenni Kayne Extends Her California-Cool Vibe to Ceramic Dinnerware

Jenni Kayne swaps silks and soft sweaters for dinner ware with her new home line, Tabletop, a collaboration with Los Angeles artist Victoria Morris. Comprised of minimalistic ceramics and linens, Tabletop is meant to make food the star: “I love a simple plate,” Kayne says. “When picking out my palette, I wanted to glaze my ceramics in soft neutrals that would be the perfect canvas for any meal.”

That palette would be warm ivories, creams, taupes, with soft touches of gold. It was inspired by Kayne’s own love of entertaining, as well as an appreciation for “earthy hues and simple, classic, shapes. I wanted to design tableware that was timeless and elegant, yet still casual and durable enough for everyday use.”

The combination of form and function, a hallmark of Kayne’s California-cool collections, reigns supreme in Tabletop. Pieces have simple names—”cup,” “bowl,” “dinner plate”—and simple designs (most pieces are monochrome, at most lightly saturated with a gold rim). Even the most exotic pieces, leather wrapped vases, exude a homey and handmade vibe.

“I hope that these pieces have a lasting longevity in any home. I think anyone with a laid-back approach to everyday luxury can appreciate a well-set table,” says Kayne. “I think anyone who wants to create a warm and inviting atmosphere will love these pieces as much as I do.” Perfect for a rustic-chic wedding, an al-fresco soirée, or just a thoughtful dinner for one.
