Pearl Harbor Day memorial ceremony slated for Thursday

KENOSHA — A Pearl Harbor memorial ceremony, hosted by Kenosha Navy Club Ship 40, begins at 11:48 a.m. Thursday in Navy Park at 52nd Street and Sixth Ave.

The ceremony will be led by Dick Stader, Ship 40 senior executive cfficer.

The start time coincides with the 7:48 a.m. Hawaiian starting time of the attack on Dec. 7, 1941.

The ceremony will remember all those who perished during the World War II attack. Names of Kenosha and Wisconsin residents who perished on Dec 7, 1941, are listed at

Navy Memorial Park was dedicated on Sept., 2, 2000 (VJ Day), and Kenosha Navy Club Ship 40 has held Pearl Harbor remembrance ceremonies each year since.

Local Hoy Audubon group sets holiday potluck dinner

MOUNT PLEASANT — Birders, the general public and their families and friends are invited to Thursday’s annual holiday potluck dinner arranged by the Hoy Audubon Society of Kenosha and Racine Counties.

The meal begins at 6 p.m. at the Sealed Air YMCA, 8501 Campus Drive, Mount Pleasant.

Those attending should bring a dish to pass, along with their own dinnerware and utensils. Hoy Audubon will provide coffee and napkins.

The gathering will include a presentation of upcoming field trips, Hoy programs, the Christmas Bird Count and other activities.

Hospice offers grief support programs for teen, tween girls

PLEASANT PRAIRIE — A grief support program for teen and tween girls, offered by Hospice Alliance, begins this month.

“Creative Expressions for Teen Girls” is an arts-based bereavement group series wherein girls ages 11-17 can express their emotions beyond words.

Aromatherapy and dance movement therapy are also part of the program.

Sessions for tweens (ages 11-13) meet Dec. 7, Jan. 2 and 16; sessions for teens (ages 14-17) meet Dec. 19, Jan. 9 and 23. All session meet 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The program takes place at Hospice Alliance, 10220 Prairie Ridge Blvd., Pleasant Prairie.

Supplies are provided for free but registration is required by calling Rebecca at 262-652-4482, ext. 1211.

Residents invited to discuss current events at library

KENOSHA — “What’s Happening, Kenosha?” a discussion of local current events, takes place 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. the first Thursday of each month at Southwest Library, 7979 38th Ave.

There is no charge.
