Ex-Bears QB Jay Cutler, Kristin Cavallari take a loss on $3.6 million Lake Forest home

Former Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler and his actress and reality TV star-turned-accessories designer wife, Kristin Cavallari, on Friday took a loss on their seven-bedroom, 11,000-square-foot mansion in Lake Forest, selling it for $3.6 million.

Cutler, 34, was released by the Bears in March after eight seasons with the team and has since returned to the game as quarterback for the Miami Dolphins. Cavallari, 30, has branched off from her reality TV career into designing accessories and shoes.

The couple now lives in Nashville, Tenn. — near where Cutler starred at Vanderbilt University. Through a land trust, they paid $4.25 million in cash in January 2014 for the 16-room limestone, slate and brick mansion on a cul-de-sac in east Lake Forest, near Lake Michigan. Constructed by Heritage Builders and located on a 1.6-acre wooded lot, the three-story mansion has 8½ baths, five fireplaces, a kitchen with a large center island and stainless steel appliances, a dining room with a butler’s pantry, a living room with coffered ceilings, custom walk-in closets in every bedroom, a third-floor in-law or nanny suite, a lower-level sport court with a half-court basketball court and a 17-foot ceiling, a theater room, a wine cellar and a heated four-car garage. Outside on the property is a deeded pedestrian path to the beach.

Cutler and Cavallari initially listed the mansion in May for $4.75 million and then reduced their asking price to just below $4.5 million in September. They cut their asking price further to $3.99 million in late October, and then found a buyer.
