Family serves as foundation for Hillside

Brothers John and Gus Loukopoulos opened Hillside Family Restaurant in Grayslake 25 years ago after years of working at various restaurants.

“My dad and uncle loved being with people,” said Mary Lazariotis, daughter of John and niece of Gus. Along with her brother, John, she works as a hostess part time at Hillside Family Restaurant. “They always wanted to give the best experience with the best quality. They came from Greece, came from nothing.”


And now they own a family restaurant with an extensive menu from breakfast to lunch to dinner to dessert.

“We serve a lot of everything,” Lazariotis said. “We have a few Greek items like saganaki, spinach pie and gyros.”
