Jimmy’s Egg cafe brings grits, omelets, pancakes and more to West Des Moines

Breakfast and lunch cafe Jimmy’s Egg opened in West Des Moines on Monday.

The Oklahoma City-based company debuted its first Iowa store at 9250 University Ave., Suite 107. Franchise owners Steve Stender and Ryan Jung plan to open other Jimmy’s Egg restaurants in the Des Moines area and in Iowa. Stender and Jung own Jimmy’s Egg eateries in the Omaha area.

Jimmy’s Egg serves breakfast and lunch, offering both from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily. Specialties include omelets with home fries, queso burrito, grits, biscuits, along with breakfast regulars like eggs, pancakes, waffles and skillets. The lunch menu offers salads, sandwiches, burgers, chicken quesadillas and country fried steak.

The restaurant seats about 115, said Ben Johnson, manager of the West Des Moines location.

The company started in the early 1980s and now has 59 stores in Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Nebraska, New York and Iowa.
