KitchenAid recalls electric kettles that can burn users

Whirlpool is recalling more than 40,000 KitchenAid electric kettles. The handle can loosen and fall off, spilling hot liquid on users.

The recall affects all KitchenAid 1.7-liter kettles. They were sold in stainless steel, red, black, white, liquid graphite and cocoa silver. KitchenAid is written on the front of the kettles.

Customers should stop using the recalled kettles and contact Whirlpool for free replacements.

Whirlpool has received 79 reports of handles separating, including three reports of minor burn injuries.

The products were sold at Bed Bath Beyond, Dillard’s, Fry’s Electronics, Kitchen Kaboodle, Kohl’s, Navy Exchange, Target, Williams Sonoma and other home improvement and retail stores.

They were also available online at Amazon.com and on other websites from September 2013 through February 2018 for about $100 to $120.

The following models are included in the recall, according to the CPSC.
