Las Vegas Market’s First Look Showcase Focuses on Four Trends

Las Vegas Market’s proprietary First Look trend forecast will showcase four central themes – Romantics Realists, Easy Now: Housewares Dining, Year of the Dog and Storytellers – at the Winter 2018 Las Vegas Market, January 28-February 1.

All Las Vegas Market exhibitors are invited to submit related products – from housewares, gifts, home décor and more – by November 14 for consideration in the First Look display, educational seminar and at-market companion guide.

“Las Vegas Market is the gift, home décor and furniture industry’s leading source for forward-thinking design, color and trend direction,” said Karen Olson, senior vice president marketing, International Market Centers. “Now it its 14th incarnation, our eagerly-anticipated First Look presentation spotlights on-trend products featured at market. As the leading furniture, home decor and gift destination in the Western United States, Las Vegas Market makes trend forecasting a priority in extending the market’s value to buyers and suppliers alike.”

The four key trends identified for the Winter 2018 First Look are:

Romantics Realists
Paint brands have released their top color picks for 2018, and the hues alternate between fiery red and watery blues to stately grays and atmospheric neutrals. Together, they recall the palettes of both Romantic and Realist painters. Merchandise selections will encompass: accent furniture, occasional tables, upholstery, area rugs, wall décor and wallpaper; warm and natural wood finishes; modern silhouettes in white finishes; warm metal finishes; fresh takes on traditional forms; landscapes and floral patterns; and cognac-colored leather.

Easy Now: Housewares Dining
Time-saving housewares make fast work of kitchen prep. This season, First Look is featuring brunch-friendly housewares and more, including: casual dining sets, space-saving buffets, bistro tables/chairs, bar carts, freestanding kitchen islands, dinnerware, glassware, serve ware, flatware, table linens, housewares, small appliances, gourmet products and on-the-go beverage containers.

Year of the Dog
It’s the Year of the Dog, and First Look is celebrating our loyal, dependable four-legged companions (cats are welcome, too.) in a playful vignette that crosses all Las Vegas Market product categories. Merchandise selections span the gamut of home furnishings, holiday, gifts and tabletop that feature pet-related motifs.

First Look celebrates makers in Storytellers, this season’s nod to handmade, fair-trade and certified home and gift products. Any and all products – and the stories behind them — that showcase creativity, craftsmanship and good cause will be featured in this trend category.

First Look curator and 20-year magazine editor Julie Smith Vincenti will assemble a selection of highly-styled product vignettes in a stunning showcase display located in the Grand Plaza, highlighting new merchandise from furniture, home decor and gift exhibitors. First Look directional trends and related products also will be featured in an image-rich printed companion guide, to be distributed at all Market registration areas. In addition, Smith Vincenti will host a free, CEU-accredited First Look seminar, on Monday, January 29, from 10 am to 11 am., reviewing the latest trend forecasts and providing additional insights from industry thought leaders and trendsetters.

All Las Vegas Market exhibitors are invited to submit their newest product debuts for the First Look program. To be considered, exhibitors must submit digital imagery (measuring at least 5”x7” at 300 dpi) and a completed product description form by Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, to Phyllis Hairr, at [email protected]; please indicate if submissions are to be considered for either or both the publication and product displays.

Las Vegas Market is the fastest growing gift and home décor market and the leading furniture marketplace in the western U.S., presenting 4,000+ gift, home décor and furniture resources in an unrivaled market destination. Las Vegas Market features thousands of gift, furniture and home décor lines, allowing for cross-category commerce among these industries.    .
