Last Few Days to Donate Items to VNA Rummage Sale, Scheduled For Early October

FAR HILLS, NJ – The tens of thousands of items sold at the giant Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills rummage sale each spring and fall come from donations from this area and and beyond – and the donation period to drop off quality used items will continue through this week, until Wednesday, Sept. 27.

Those donations will stock 26 “departments” of bargain merchandise for this fall’s VNA rummage sale, which is scheduled to be held Oct. 6, 7 and 8 at the Far Hills Fairgrounds off Route 202. The sale, which dates back to the early 20th century, attracts thousands of shoppers from throughout New Jersey, as well as other states.

VNA is based in Basking Ridge

The sale, which is staffed by hundreds of volunteers from nearby and throughout the region, is a fundraiser to help the Basking Ridge-based VNA provide home health and hospice care to families in need, along with other wellness services not covered by any insurance.

Donations accepted from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Collection hours for donations are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily, except Sunday, at the fairgrounds, where volunteers have already been sifting through and setting up merchandise under large white tents since earlier this month.

During donation hours, volunteers are also on hand to help unload donations from vehicles, direct traffic, and hand out forms about the VNA, as well as forms to file for tax deduction.

The VNA accepts an extensive variety of items, including clothing for all ages – including high fashion – as well as toys, household and electrical appliances in working condition, sporting goods, books, artwork, and each year, some very unique donations.

The parking lot on the first day of the sale is usually lined up with bargain hunters waiting for the first crack at finding adult and children’s clothing, appliances, antiques, pet supplies, electronics, lighting fixtures, cameras, fabric and sewing accessories, holiday decorations, sporting goods, furniture, jewelry, toys, books, decorative items, kitchen goods, and more.
