Maker of iconic Fiestaware line represents WV at White House

NEWELL, W.Va. – As part of a weeklong focus on American-made goods last week, Homer Laughlin China Co. – maker of the iconic Fiesta kitchenware line – was chosen to represent West Virginia in the “Made in America Product Showcase” as part of “Made in America Week” at the White House in Washington, D.C. Only one company from each of the 50 states was selected to be highlighted in the celebration.

“This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, a whirlwind adventure, really,” said Katie Bricker, director of foodservice marketing, HLC Inc., in a news release.

“I found out about this, like the rest of the country, late last week and was so honored to be invited to represent West Virginia, but also in a broader way among genuine American manufacturers from every corner of the country.”

President Donald Trump embraced the “Made in America” theme at a kickoff event Monday, July 17, that featured products from all 50 states displayed inside and outside the White House, according to The Associated Press. Speaking to assembled business owners and executives, he promised that “restoring American manufacturing will not only restore our wealth, it will restore our pride and pride in ourselves.”

Since its founding in 1871 in Newell, West Virginia, HLC has made its durable, lead-free dinnerware in America and is the only remaining large-scale U.S. manufacturer doing so.

In addition to classics like Fiesta, the colorful, collectible tableware, the Homer Laughlin China Co. has offered a range of dinnerware for restaurants, hotels and institutions.

“Homer Laughlin is so proud to manufacture in the U.S. and to supply jobs to over 800 workers in our community. To have been recognized for our commitment to being ‘Made in America’ was truly remarkable,” Bricker said.

“HLC has always been interested in American jobs and American manufacturing – we’ve been doing it for 150 years. That’s the kind of commitment we hope to see among all American enterprises.”
