A team of realtors donated furniture and their design services to make a Habitat for Humanity house a home for a deserving family.

Guiseline Fortune-Brumaire held her hand over her mouth in disbelief as she walked into her family’s new home for the first time.

A black-and-white framed photograph of her wedding hung on the wall. Stuffed animals filled a basket in one corner. Enough seating for eight in the dining room.

She had only a few words.

“God is good,” Fortune-Brumaire said on a recent Friday morning as she looked around her new three-bedroom Golden Gate Estates home. “God is so good, yes, he is.”

Trusting their faith

Fortune-Brumaire, a native of Haiti, has lived in Naples for about 11 years. She met Fritz Brumaire, another Haitian, while they were both on a mission trip in the Dominican Republic.

It’s been three years since they married — three long years waiting for a house of their own for a family of four, with another one now on the way. Facing high costs of rental properties and mortgages in Collier County, the Brumaires have been living with relatives — 11 people in one house.

They trusted their faith, she said, that they’d find a place of their own.

About six months ago they turned to Habitat for Humanity and learned in February that they were approved to purchase a Habitat home with an affordable mortgage.

That was a blessing in itself, said Fortune-Brumaire, who works for Collier County Public Schools. Brumaire works at a Publix in East Naples.
