Mason jars containing unknown substances discovered in Paterson, prompts evacuation

PATERSON — The discovery of two dozen mason jars containing unknown substances prompted the evacuation of an online retail kitchen business, a fire official said.

The Paterson Fire Department discovered the jars in an old laboratory on the first floor of the building at E. 24th St. and Third Ave. when they responded to a 911 call at 11:10 a.m., Deputy Fire Chief William Henderson said.

“They were sealed. There’s no hazard,” Henderson said about the jars. “Nobody was complaining of any symptoms or anything in the rooms that were monitored were all clear.”

Everyone in the building was evacuated. No one was hurt.

The building listed as TTS Green LLC. and ILH Sales Inc. is registered as a kitchen accessories facility, according to property records.

It’s not known what was in the jars found, Henderson said. The building is in the process of being sold. A remediation company was in route to remove the jars.

According to Linkedin, Tuli Ehrlich is listed as the chief executive officer at ILH Sales Inc. and Chefland.com. Ehrlich has been the CEO since August 2011.

Ehrlich declined to comment to reporters at the scene.

Passaic County Health and Hazmat assisted the firefighters at the scene.
