‘Recipes’ Offers Unique Take On Breakfast

ROCHESTER, MI — A restaurant that prides itself on its unique breakfast creations recently opened in Rochester. Recipes is now open from from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 134 W. University.

The Rochester location is third in metropolitan Detroit. Troy and Farmington Hills also have Recipes. According to Yelp reviewers, it’s a good option for breakfast — the Troy location has an overall rating of 3.5 stars out of five after more than 100 reviews.

“Amazing! I live right by but we never went because the outside doesn’t look the best but we looked at the reviews and decided to stop in,” wrote Anna L. of Troy in a June 24 review. She gave the restaurant five stars. “The croissant French toast is absolutely to die for! They only serve it on the weekends only tho! The skillets and omelets are also really good!”

The breakfast menu is extensive. Firttatas such as the “Pepper Pot” and “Ranchero” are available while those looking for something even more unique might try a California roll or spinach and sprouts omelet.

Many traditional American breakfast items are also available, such as chocolate chip and blueberry pancakes as well as eggs benedict. For the hearty appetites there’s a good choice of skillets, which feature, eggs potatoes, meat, vegetables and cheese.

Lunch selections include sandwiches, soups, salads and several Thai-inspired house specialties.

While the Troy Recipes’ reviews were mostly positive, not everyone was as impressed.

“Headed here with a group of coworkers. Nothing too fancy, but it’s a standard American breakfast place,” wrote Jeff D of Detroit in an Oct. 7 review in which he gave the restaurant three stars. “This place has a ton of great reviews, but you definitely wouldn’t guess that based on the outside appearance. The food is pretty average and there’s something for everyone here, but with the other options available in the area, it’s definitely not a ‘need to visit’ spot.”
