Is it time to put some pizzazz back into a room?  Surprisingly, a mini makeover is possible without breaking the bank.

Returning home to Shreveport from Dallas after 20 years in the design industry, Susan Beard Chance, owner of Susan Chance Designs, specializes in interior consulting, planning, and designing.  She creates thoughtful spaces with a timeless design for a functional space her clients can enjoy for years to come.

Chance fits the client’s tastes and personality into beautiful spaces functional for the entire family by incorporating the family’s lifestyle into the furniture and design selections. She can tackle any size job – from one-time consultations to complete remodels.

Chance offers several suggestions to update the look of a home by freshening up rooms throughout the house.

Chance says, “One of my favorite solutions is to redesign a client’s home with their existing furniture, not spending any money on new items. I shop within the home and find new ways to use existing furniture, artwork, and accessories.”

Other easy ways to enhance a room, according to Chance:
-Fresh coat of paint
-New window treatments
-Replace kitchen cabinet hardware
-Reface kitchen cabinets and drawers
-New throw pillows, accessories, lamps or rug for the family room
-Paint the chairs or update the fabric for breakfast/dining chairs

Hiring a professional can help to save costly mistakes while completing a project more quickly. Chance said that most designers charge by the hour with rates in Shreveport ranging from $75-$150 per hour, depending upon the size of the project.

When it’s time to start shopping for some fun new pieces, Paul Michael Company in Monroe, will keep a shopper busy all day long finding treasures for their home. With five locations, there are only two in Louisiana – Monroe and Lafayette. Debra Bailey, general manager for the Louisiana stores, suggests mixing  with older items with new pieces which will give a more collected, stylish look to the home.

With $500-$1,000, a new look can be achieved by purchasing new pillows, art, rugs and lamps, according to Bailey. If the budget allows for more, investments in painting, lighting, and furniture can be made.

Here’s what is trending now at Paul Michael Company:
-Occasional Chairs
-Consoles
-Teak Mushroom Stools
-Zinc Dining Table
-Metal Dining Chairs
-Assorted Antiques
-Metallics
-White
-Asian
-Brass
-Patterned Cowhides
-Fur
-Lucite

Adding some new feathers to the nest will help give a room an entirely new feel and doesn’t have to break the bank.

“Trends come and go, just buy what you love and it’ll be around awhile,” Bailey said.
