Stein Mart announces when it will open its first central Pa. store

Stein Mart, a discount chain, has announced it plans to open a 36,000-square-foot store on the Carlisle Pike in Hampden Township in mid-October.

Stein Mart sells clothing and accessories, handbags, luggage, jewelry, shoes, home decor, kitchen and dining items and more. The company says that, on average, each of its stores employ 40 associates. It operates  more than 290 stores in more than 30 states. Currently, the closest stores to central Pennsylvania are in the Philadelphia and Allentown areas.

Soon after after Kmart announced in January that its store at 5600 Carlisle Pike would be closing, Pomegranate Real Estate announced on its website that the real estate company would be redeveloping the property, and that Stein Mart, Marshall’s and HomeGoods would be coming to the shopping center.

TJX Companies, which owns HomeGoods and Marshalls, wouldn’t comment on the future stores and when they expect the two stores to open. Pomegranate Real Estate wouldn’t comment either but, says on its website that the stores are expected to open in the third quarter. The real estate company also lists on its website room for additional expansion next to the three stores.

HomeGoods sells home decor and home furnishings. A HomeGoods store opened in the Colonial Commons shopping center in Lower Paxton Township in 2015.

Marshall’s, a discount retail chain, also has stores at the Colonial Commons shopping center in Lower Paxton Township and at the Silver Spring Commons shopping center in Silver Spring Township.

The Kmart store closed in February.
