These San Diego homes come equipped with Apple-approved upgrades – The San Diego Union

Homebuilder Brookfield Residential has partnered with Apple in the hopes of catching the eye of prospective San Diego homebuyers, now offering them a suite of technology features that transform dumb appliances into smart ones.

The builder’s newest county homes are outfitted with Apple HomeKit technology and compatible devices, meaning future residents can control lights, locks, thermostats and blinds using their voice, or the Apple Home smartphone and tablet app. Most of the so-called “connected home” features are being offered standard, at no extra charge, at new Brookfield San Diego communities in Chula Vista and San Marcos.

The residences come with the following smart appliances, also called “accessories” in Apple parlance: Lutron Caseta lighting in the entryway, kitchen, stairway and dining room; a Honeywell Lyric T6 Smart WiFi Thermostat; a Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt for the front door; and a Ubiquiti Wireless Access Point for whole-home WiFi.

Home owners can then use the Apple Home app to create what are called “scenes,” or multitasking commands that link accessories for custom needs — say simultaneously dimming the lights in the hallway and turning off the air conditioning. Tasks can also be automated based on the time of day, or whether you’re entering or leaving the home.
