Three injured in Hazleton crash

Hazleton police said a minivan driven by Roque Rivas, Freeland, was traveling on Maple Street on Saturday at 1:27 p.m. when he collided with a vehicle traveling on Church Street and driven by Travis Culp of Hazleton.


Rivas and two of his passengers were taken to Hazleton General Hospital for treatment. Both vehicles were towed.

Man accused of stealing mixer

Alexander Joseph Dzoh, 32, of Larksville, was charged by state police at Hazleton with retail theft and conspiracy after a $349.99 KitchenAid stand mixer was stolen from Boscov’s at the Laurel Mall, Hazleton.

Dzoh had three previous convictions for retail theft, an affidavit of probable cause states.

Tamaqua man charged in assault

Daniel P. Peletsky, 30, of Tamaqua was charged by borough police with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct after a domestic dispute involving an assault in a home on Glenwood Avenue on Saturday. He awaits a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 19 before District Judge Stephen J. Bayer.

An affidavit of probable cause alleges Peletsky hit his girlfriend after police told him not to return to her home after a previous dispute.

McAdoo man charged with trespassing

A McAdoo man faces multiple charges after an incident in the 500 block of West Third Street, Hazleton, on Sunday morning.

Hazleton police charged Montrell Taylor, of 102 S. Kennedy Drive, with criminal trespass, terroristic threats, loitering and prowling at night, harassment and public drunkenness.

Police said they were called to a home on Third Street at 3 a.m. where they met with a man who said he heard a loud noise coming from his porch. The man said when he opened the door, a man later identified as Taylor forced himself into the home and threatened him. Taylor also hit the man in his head several times before leaving the home on foot. Police found Taylor about two blocks away a short time later.

Copper stolen in West Hazleton

State police at Hazleton said someone entered Valmont Newmark Corp. in the 200 block of Kiwanis Boulevard, West Hazleton, between 7 p.m. Sunday and 2:50 a.m. Monday and took a large amount of copper.

Also taken was a chainsaw and several vending machines were damaged.
