Timeless NO Style on Iconic East Lakeshore Point

Homes along University Lake are destination domiciles in our city. When you live on one of the Lakeshore drives, it’s about as good as it gets. The home at 3267 East Lakeshore Drive is a spectacular residence with 436 feet of curving lake frontage with amazing views of Tiger Stadium, the Campanile and the lake itself.

If you’ve ever driven along East Lakeshore Drive, you’ve likely taken notice of this home as you round Walker Point. Built in 1991, the one-owner residence stands tall and statuesque. It is unmissable.

Walker Point is one of the premier locations on University Lake, from nearly every room in the home, you can clearly see Tiger Stadium, the Campanile, the Lod Cook Center and incredible sunsets. And nearly all of the home’s windows are dressed in operating plantation shutters.

“The views here are phenomenal,” said Candace Walker, the C.J. Brown agent marketing the home.

The millwork in this residence is custom, right down to the coved crown molding, door casings and baseboards. There’s also lots of copper trim, drainage and flashings.

The rooms in this 5,040-square-foot home are large and arranged thoughtfully. Most of the flooring on the first level is teak wood, an exquisite choice that was reclaimed from a New Orleans warehouse.

“It took two 18-wheelers to haul the wood up here,” Walker said. The teak floors are one of the first things you notice when you walk through the leaded glass entry doors. To the left is a parlor with room for a grand piano, and to the right is the formal dining room with a swinging door to the kitchen area. Both rooms have huge windows with lake and LSU views.

The massive kitchen is outfitted with stainless KitchenAid appliances. The owner left the original Corian countertops, giving the new owners the opportunity to make their own choices.

The family room has a corner fireplace and a wall of glass to a covered porch and a 75-foot wide brick courtyard with a 10-foot pigeonniere. The current owner said parties for 200 or more guests are easily accommodated. Just on the other side of the courtyard is a 1,050-square foot guest house with a full kitchen.

A home office connects to the master suite, a large retreat with a sitting area and views of the lake. The focal point in the master bath is a Carrera marble cove with a Jacuzzi tub. Two walk-in closets have dressers, and dual vanities are below a single custom mirror.

Up the amazing custom staircase, you’ll find three bedrooms that share two full baths. With 9-foot ceilings and more teak wood flooring, the upstairs portions of this home were certainly not an afterthought.

You’ll also find the best lake views of all from the 10-foot-wide New Orleans style balcony.

“This is an amazing spot,” Walker said as she swung open the door to the balcony. While many balconies are more for decoration, this one is usable, she said. And because it’s on the lake, there’s always a breeze.
