University Club Plantation’s Veranda View

It’s been just over a year since we last visited University Club Plantation’s Veranda View development. But in that short time the development has sold about half of its 68 lots. Apparently, plenty of folks are looking for ways to get into University Club.

“It’s done really well and it’s been well-received,” said Heather Kirkpatrick, the KDK Capital Region Realty agent marketing Veranda View. The Scott Bardwell development has homes that start at $425,000, and seven building plans are available.

Kirkpatrick said buyers appreciate the guarantee of a quality home from Bardwell Construction, but at the same time having the flexibility to alter plans to suit their own tastes.

Veranda View, located just past the golf course driving range off University Club Drive, also has the benefit of design services from Kenneth Brown, a Baton Rouge native who was named one of the top 100 designers in the country by House Beautiful and Western Interiors. Brown has offices in Baton Rouge and Los Angeles and has been featured in his own television shows on Fine Living, TLC and HGTV.

“He helps us in every single home,” Kirkpatrick said. “He works with the homeowners.” A home bought in Veranda View comes also comes with a club membership, excluding golf.

The homes in Veranda View are designed with edge-loading or alley-loading garages, both of which allow the front elevations to be charming and clutter-free. Every home has at least some green space, and all homes must follow University Club restrictions. Currently, about 25 families live in Veranda View.

Lots for the edge-loading homes are 60 x 145 feet, and lots with the alleys in back are 42 x 145 feet. The edge-loading homes have back yards, while the alley-loading homes do not.

The home at 3140 Veranda View Ave. – the development’s new model home – has 12-foot ceilings, engineered oak flooring, 3cm Carrara marble slabs in the kitchen and bathrooms, stainless steel KitchenAid appliance packages and extras like Bevolo gas lamps.

The entry area has engineered oak flooring that stretches into the living room to the left. The living room fireplace has a subway tile surround to match the backsplashes in the kitchen. Coved crown molding is a nice touch. Next in line in this tall, deep home is the dining area, which has a cased opening into the kitchen.

The kitchen has a stainless five-burner KitchenAid cooktop with a stove below. The center island is topped by a beautiful oak slab, and counters have black quartz slabs. Custom cabinetry is painted. An interior courtyard across from the kitchen will have an outdoor kitchen and a 7-foot privacy fence.

Heading further inside, the master suite is located across the hall from a guest suite. Double doors lead into the tile master bath, which has 3cm marble counters on dual vanities separated by a tall linen closet. A 6-foot soaker tub is below a glass window, not far from a walk-in shower. The master closet at the far end of the bath has a built-in dresser.

The laundry and a mud room are near the home’s rear exit to the alley-loading two-car garage. A big window is at the middle landing of the custom staircase to the second floor, where two bedrooms are separated by a full bath. The sitting room at the top landing has an exit to a tile veranda.

If you’d like to see Veranda View for yourself, the KDK Capital Region Realty team will keep the model home open today 10/22/17 from 2-4 p.m.
