San Francisco is known for its many neighborhoods. Each one is like its own little town. Some are well-known and popular, while others are like little hidden gems. Portola is a hidden gem of a neighborhood. Those who don’t live in the area might never even know it’s there. However, this doesn’t stop the neighborhood from having excellent restaurants. When residents want a yummy breakfast and don’t want to cook, they have several such restaurants that open early to serve breakfast.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s

People have been coming enjoying breakfast and lunch at Breakfast at Tiffany’s since 1978. This neighborhood diner serves classic American breakfast options. Dine on pancakes, waffles, breakfast platters, skillets, hash browns or eggs cooked in a variety of styles. Enjoy the old-time diner appeal by hopping on a stool at the counter or take one of the tables. The welcoming, neighborhood vibe makes it a great place to meet up with friends or family.

Sweet Maple Restaurant

Sweet Maple is a comfortable, cozy restaurant that serves up food that’s been made with locally sourced, organic ingredients. The Millionaire bacon has quite a following and is something to try when it’s available. It’s made of thick pieces of bacon that is slow-cooked for hours; when it’s done the bacon is both sweet and spicy. Another popular dish is the deep-fried French Toast. The Dixie bacon features fried bacon that’s drizzled with a Tabasco and honey sauce. Morning tacos, eggs, waffles and a host of other traditional American breakfast foods are on the menu. However, many of the dishes have an Asian-inspired twist. The menu also has a healthy eating section. Diners can enjoy bottomless Mimosas or Bloody Marys with breakfast


Outerlands is a cozy spot with weathered wood walls and some unique breakfast options. The Dutch pancakes cooked in a cast iron skillet, vegetarian doughnuts, malted buttermilk waffles and the Outerlands breakfast sandwich are just a few items on the breakfast menu. There are several vegetarian options as well. The bread is fresh and house-made. Outerlands is open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and for brunch on the weekend. Dinner reservations are recommended.

Higher Grounds Coffee House

Diners can sit at one of the sidewalk tables or take a seat inside this warm and inviting cafe. A variety of pastries and crepes are the stars here. Shrimp stuffed crepes, the croissant French toast and the salsa crepe are among the tasty options on the menu. Coffee lovers with enjoy the rich and creamy coffees served.
