What’s cookin’? Developers donate spare kitchen to charity groups

It could be ready, steady, cook for a charity thanks to a generous donation.

Rainier Developments, the company behind the redevelopment of the Elliotts Car Accessories site on London Road, recently bought an office building in Binley which came complete with an industrial kitchen and canteen.

Since the kitchen in the building in Brindle Avenue is being stripped out, the developers felt the equipment could be put to better use by a charity.

“The equipment is relatively modern and is in really good condition so we did not want to strip it out before seeing if it could have a use which would help the community,” said Rainier managing director Richard Mees.

It was thanks to Rainier’s work with Joe Elliott that he recommended the developers get in touch with the Heart of England Community Foundation.

“He recommended we contact the Foundation as they have great links with charities across the region,” Richard explained.

“They have set the wheels in motion and hopefully now it will go to a good home where it can be of real use.”

Tina Costello, chief executive of the foundation, said two or three charities had been earmarked as possible recipients.

She said: “This is a really kind gesture from Rainier, and we are delighted to help.

“While it is not really what we do, we certainly know organisations who would be very grateful recipients of this sort of equipment so we will certainly be finding a very good home for it all.”

Based in Henley-in-Arden, Rainier Developments is creating a private housing scheme on the site of Elliotts Car Accessories .

Around 167 private sale apartments – mostly one and two bedroomed – are to be created in two buildings which will range from three to 16 storeys, designed to create a gateway to the ring road and city centre.
