What’s Going On

“What’s Going On” includes upcoming one-time events in and around Racine County such as breakfasts, dinners, car washes, rummage sales, parties and dances intended to be money-raisers by or in behalf of nonprofit community organizations, either held or requiring reservations within the next two weeks. Events held on a regular basis are not used. Announcements must arrive at The Journal Times by noon Tuesday before the desired Saturday publication date. Announcements may only be used one time. RUMMAGE SALE


Mount Pleasant Lutheran Church, 1700 S. Green Bay Road, Mount Pleasant, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. today, July 15. The sale will include housewares and outdoor items, clothing and accessories for all ages, toys, games, books and more. Profits will be divided among four local charities — IPods for Alzheimer’s, Stop Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN), Women of Worth and Bethany Apartments.

BOOK SALE

Items are offered through Collective Goods (formerly Books are Fun) and include a variety of books, stationary, CDs, photo albums and children’s games. Sale locations are:

  • Monday-Tuesday, July 17-18 — Ascension All Saints Hospital memorial dining room, 1320 Wisconsin Ave., 7 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • Wednesday-Friday, July 19-21 — Ascension All Saints Hospital Sturtevant Room, 3801 Spring St., 7 a.m.-5 p.m.

All forms of payment are accepted. A portion of the proceeds benefit the Volunteers in Partnership with Ascension All Saints Hospital which supports program and equipment needs of Ascension-All Saints.

Tuesday

TRIVIA FOR RHINOS

Roundabout Bar and Smokehouse, 5844 Douglas Ave., Caledonia, 7-10 p.m. Tuesday, July 18. The event will feature bar trivia for teams of between one and six members, and a silent auction with opportunities to win free prizes. First, second and third place teams will receive prize packages with gift cards from local businesses. The cost is $10 per person. Money raised will go to conservation organizations helping rhinos in both Africa and Indonesia, including Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and the International Rhino Foundation. SCAN’S CONES FOR KIDS

Racine Masonic Center, 1012 Main St., 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 19. The event will include an ice cream tasting contest, family activities, crafts with the Racine Art Museum, balloon art from the Big Balloon Tycoon and a silent auction for family-friendly prizes. Attendees will sample mini cones from Culver’s, Georgie Porgie’s, Sugar Shack, Divino Gelato and more, and vote for their favorite flavor to win the Golden Scoop Award. The Stop Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) program of Lutheran Social Services helps provide child abuse awareness lessons to students in southeastern Wisconsin. They currently provide lessons to 12,000 preschoolers, kindergartners, second, fourth and sixth grade students in Racine and Kenosha counties schools.

CIGAR DINNER

Racine Zoo, 2131 N. Main St., 5:30-11 p.m. Thursday, July 20. $100. The event will feature hors d’oeuvres, a gourmet steak dinner, drinks, exemplary cigar selection and live and silent auctions. BOOK SALE

Burlington Public Library, 166 E. Jefferson St., Burlington. Thursday through Saturday, July 20-22. The library will host its annual book sale. Book sale hours are from 2-7 p.m. Thursday, July 20, (Preview from noon-2 p.m. for $5 per person, $15 per family); 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, July 21; and 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, July 22.

MULTI FAMILY YARD SALE

Private residence, 6012 Highway V, Caledonia, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, July 20-21; 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 22-23. Brand new items including tools, school/office supplies, small kitchen appliances and housewares, as well as perennials, jams, homemade canned cuisine, fresh baked goods and artwork from local artists including hand painted glassware, hand-crafted fused glassware/jewelry, pottery and lawn/garden items will be sold. A stove, refrigerator, microwave, end tables, wheelchair, metal patio set, toys, baby clothes to size 4T, housewares, holiday items and more will also be sold. Proceeds will benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
