Woman charged in Mortensen heist

SANDPOINT A Clark Fork woman was charged with grand theft after allegedly ransacking the rural home of actor Viggo Mortensen.

Sharyl Ann Hoskins made an initial appearance in Bonner County Magistrate Court on Monday via video feed from the Bonner County Jail, court records show. Judge Debra Heise set Hoskins bail and appointed a public defender to represent her.

The caretaker of Mortensens rural home reported on Friday that he left the property and was gone all day. Upon the mans return, he discovered smashed up dinnerware, overturned furniture and missing property. Two .22-caliber rifles, a 12-gauge shotgun, 25 pocketknives, 20 antler sheds, four whitetail deer skulls and other property were reportedly taken, according to a probable cause affidavit.

Hoskins, 50, was identified as a suspect because Mortensen had recently purchased items at an estate sale held by the Hoskins family, court records indicate.

Hoskins was confronted with the allegations and allegedly confessed to taking the items. She reportedly told the deputy that she lost control of herself, the affidavit said.

Mortensen, who is also a musician, author and artist, has scores of film credits to his name including, The Road, The Lord of the Rings trilogy and Carlitos Way.

A preliminary hearing in the case is pending.
